A Chinese Astrological Perspective : William Hunt “Bill” Gross
Master/Dr Jin has been traveling again, to San Francisco and then Moscow and with luck, we managed to secure an analysis out of him thanks to those lonely Russian evenings with him snug and warm in his Putin sweatshirt ! (yes, not a t-shirt but a sweat shirt).
I wish it was my idea to do this Bill Gross piece but we have my dad’s neighbour to thank for the brilliant suggestion.
Bill Gross left the bond market high and dry when he departed from the firm and fund that he founded and carefully nurtured for over 30 years. The bond world has a lost a great, although many more would beg to differ these days.
I wonder if it would also mean the end of a golden bond age – one that lasted over 30 years and one which Bill Gross rode from start till now.
Bill Gross is indeed an icon of the bond world. Would his departure portend for end times in this golden bond era ? Let’s see what Master Jin has to say.

Gross is born on a Yin Fire Sheep day, which is one of the Six Intellectual Day Pillars. This suggests that he is highly intelligent and will perform academically.
Gross is also highly adaptable and flexible, as he has a multi-directional chart that is able to go with the flow of several elements, such as earth (his output and talent), water (his wealth) and wood (his resource). This suggests that his favourable and negative elements depend on the flow of the prevailing element during the relevant luck cycle.
Currently, at the age of 70, Gross is in the Yin Wood Luck Cycle which started when he turned 67 (in 2011) and will run until he is 72. After that, he will be in the Pig Luck Cycle. Both Luck Cycles are characterized by the wood element, which represents his Resources. The Pig also combines with the Sheep present in his Day Pillar to form wood.
When he is going through the Wood Luck Cycles, his favourable elements are:
1) Wood: this represents his Resource.
2) Water: the Power element further strengthens his Resource element wood.
His negative elements are:
1) Fire: this represents Competitors.
2) Metal: the Wealth element attacks Wood, his favourable Resource element.
3) Earth: the Output element attacks Water, his Power element.
2014 is the year of the Yang Wood Horse. The first half of the year represented by Yang Wood is favourable to Gross as it contains Resource, his current favourable element. The second half of the year which is represented by the Horse will not be as favourable as the Horse contains Yin Fire, which is a Competitor to Gross’s Yin Fire Day Master.
Gross was one of the co-founders of Pacific Investment Management (PIMCO). He ran PIMCO’s $270 billion Total Return Fund until September 2014, when he stepped down to join Janus.
2015 will be the year of the Yin Wood Sheep. It will be another favourable year for Gross as the first half of the year contains his useful element wood. The Sheep present in the second half of 2015 also contains wood, which is also beneficial for Gross. However, the Sheep also contains Yin Fire and Yin Earth, both of which are not favourable for Gross. This suggests that there will be both success and setbacks in the second half of 2015.
2016 is the year of the Yang Fire Monkey. Yang Fire represents a stronger Rival for Gross as he is a Yin Fire Day Master. To illustrate the difference, consider Yin Fire as a candle while Yang Fire is represented by the Sun. This suggests that the first half of 2016 will be stressful for Gross. The second half of 2016 is represented by the Monkey, which has water, his favourable element. This indicates that he will recover from the setbacks in the first half of the year.
The Chinese Year starts from the Lunar New Year, which falls on February 19 in 2015 and February 8 in 2016. The first half of the year will run from February to the start of August and the second half from August till the following Chinese New Year.
The Chinese Astrology principles discussed in this article are covered in Jin’s current book Four Pillars of Destiny Discover Your Code To Success which is currently available on amazon and exclusively in Singapore through the Way On Net Bookstore in Fu Lu Shou Centre.
**************
Master Jin confessed that Bill Gross has been a difficult subject and given his age, certain aspects had to be disregarded.
Yet it does look like the bond market will not have an easy ride ahead which is not too hard to imagine with all these uncertainties enveloping markets and the ever changing rules and regulations.
The furthest thing on almost everyone’s minds right now would be a bond market breakdown or collapse, unfathomable as it would seem with the BoJ and the ECB and almost every central bank in the world turning on the liquidity taps.
It is almost ingrained into logic systems that bonds will be the Holy Grail of investments for now and the future.
So lets hope for Bill Gross sake too, that the rough patches between mid 2015 and early 2016 will be minor ones.
