A Chinese Astrological Perspective – Modi In, Ying-Has-Lucked Out

Our feng shui consultant, Dr Jin Peh, is finally back from his long travels which took him to a feng shui convention in the UK where he was promoting his new book, Four Pillars Of Destiny, co authored with Dr Lily Chung.

FENGSHUII prevailed upon him to do a quick write up on 2 Asian leaders who are currently in the spotlight, Thailand’s Yingluck Shinawatra who is lucking out and hugely popular Narendra Modi, seen as the saviour of the Indian economy.

The results are perhaps not so surprising as their fates are written in their bazi (aka Four Pillars Of Destiny).

Yingluck Shinawatra is a Yang Fire Day Master. There are no Combinations involving the Branches in her Four Pillars chart. There are two other Fire Competitors (Rivals) present in the Stems; Yang Fire and Yin Fire. There are Yin Fire Rivals hidden in the Horse Month Branch and the Sheep Year Branch. Shinawatra has a Competitive Fire chart.

Her favorable elements are:

1)     Earth: her Output element drains the Fire Rivals present in her chart.

2)     Water: her Power element controls the Fire Rivals.

Her negative elements are:

1)     Metal: the Wealth element creates a source of conflict amongst the Fire Rivals.

2)     Wood: the Resource element strengthens both her Yang Fire Day Master and also her other Fire Rivals.

3)     Fire: they represent her Rivals. However, as there is a Horse Month Branch in her chart, the Tiger and Dog form a Partial Three Harmony Fire Combination with it. This transforms Shinawatra into a Dominant Fire Day Master. This means that in Luck Cycles or years of the Tiger or Dog, Shinawatra will enjoy good fortune.

Note that the Hour of Birth for Shinawatra is not known. Unlike the case of Narendra Modi, the Hour Pillar is not as important as Shinawatra is still in her 40s. The influence of the Hour Pillar becomes more prominent in a person’s 50s.

Shinawatra became Prime Minister of Thailand in 2011 (Yin Metal Rabbit year) during the Dog Luck Cycle. She was 44 years old. The Dog combined with her Horse Month Branch to transform her into a Dominant Fire chart. This allowed her to become powerful and influential.

At the age of 46, she entered the Yin Metal Luck Cycle. This formed a Stem Combination with her Yang Fire Day Master. The Yin Metal represents wealth to Shinawatra, so this indicates financial opportunities within her reach. However, as there is another Yang Fire Stem in her Month Pillar, this indicates an element of struggle with another Rival even though Shinawatra will ultimately emerge the victor.

Unfortunately, Shinawatra lost the influence of the Dog Luck Cycle, so she reverted back to being a Competitive Fire chart. In 2014 (Yang Wood Horse year), the influence of the negative Resource element Wood and the Yin Fire Competitor present in the Horse saw her being dismissed from her position as Prime Minister by the Constitutional Court. The negative fire element present in the second half of the year means that Shinawatra will find it difficult to regain her power.

2015 is the Yin Wood Sheep year. The negative Resource element wood and the Yin Fire Competitor are once again present. This does not bode well for Shinawatra. However, the positive Output element Earth is the main energy associated with the Sheep Branch, so perhaps there may be some relief for Shinawatra compared to 2014.

Modi is a Yin Wood Day Master. Unlike Shinawatra’s chart, the influence of the Year Pillar in Modi’s chart would have waned by now as he is currently in his 60s. His Hour Pillar is not confirmed. Other sources have suggested that he is born around 11 am or 12 pm, which in Chinese Astrology is the Horse Hour.

However, I feel that the possibility of Modi being born after 1 pm is quite high. The period between 1pm and 3 pm is considered the Hour of the Sheep. This transforms Modi into a Dominant Wood chart due to the Partial Three Harmony Wood Combination involving his Rabbit Day Branch. He is currently in the Rabbit Luck Cycle at the age of 63. The Rabbit Luck Cycle contributes to the Partial Three Harmony Wood Combination and further strengthens his Dominant Wood chart. This allows him to become the Prime Minister of India.

His favorable elements are:

1)     Water: the Resource element strengthens him.

2)     Wood: the Dominant self is not threatened by any Wood Rivals or Competitors.

3)     Fire: the Output element controls his negative element Metal.

His negative elements are:

1)     Metal: the Power element controls his Dominant Wood self.

2)     Earth: the Earth element compromises his positive Resource element water.

Note that these criteria only apply to Modi once he reached his 50s. In the earlier part of his life, Modi was a Competitive Wood chart with a different list of favorable and negative elements.

Modi became Prime Minister when he won the election in 2014 (Yang Wood Horse year). The Yang Wood Stem no longer posed a threat to his Yin Wood Day Master and became favorable. Modi was able to lead his party to victory in the elections.

2015 is the Year of the Yin Wood Sheep. The Sheep also forms a Partial Three Harmony Wood Combination with Modi’s Rabbit Day Branch that further strengthens his Dominant Wood chart. It should also be a favorable year for Modi. His favorable Rabbit Luck Cycle lasts until the age of 67 in 2017 (Yin Fire Rooster year).

After word

So sell out Thailand and buy India ?

Is a country’s fate and fortunes tied to its leader ? I do not think we need fengshui tell us that. That Modi will run out of luck by 2017 is also telling us that the path is full of ups and downs and we have a couple of years for him to live up to promises. Till then, it would be hard to fight the tide.

As for Thailand and its transitional government,  it only spells more red tape to expect even if the Bank of Thailand soothes investor fears. Besides, it never got cheap enough to buy in the global investment climate where greed declares that turmoil will lead to turnarounds like Greece, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus. Even Ukraine is not spared from the optimism.

So, there we have it. New tides and directions from a Chinese astrological perspective.
