A Chinese Astrology Perspective : Shorting On Elon Musk
There is nothing mythical or occultish about fengshui or bazi, which I just discovered have nothing to do with divination. But it delivers an important end goal that we all seek – balance and equilibrium which are the basic building blocks to a good trading mindset.
Our second fengshui piece courtesy of Dr Jin Peh, who has kindly consented to be our feng shui columnist/consultant is on Elon Musk, an enigmatic entrepreneurial inventor that has the world gapping in awe at his near inhuman ability to bring his visions into reality.
Tesla US Equity (TSLA US) has made many an investor look foolish, great ones too, who had ventured to short on its insane but not uncommon P/E ratio of 151 times. Mr Musk was in the news again this week, this time hawking his space ships to Nasa. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-03-05/musk-makes-washington-push-for-military-launch-market.html
To answer the million dollar question – Can We Short Tesla ?, let us read into his bazi charts.

Musk is a Yang Wood Day Master. There are no Combinations involving the Branches in his Four Pillars chart. There is another Yang Wood present in the Month Pillar and an additional Yang Wood hidden within his Pig Year Branch. Musk has a Competitive Wood chart.
His favorable elements are:
1) Metal: his Power element is able to control the Wood Rivals present in his chart.
2) Fire: his Output element drains the Wood Rivals.
His negative elements are:
1) Earth: the Wealth element creates a source of conflict amongst the Wood Rivals.
2) Water: the Resource element strengthens both his Yang Wood Day Master and his Wood Rivals.
3) Wood: they represent his Rivals. However, as there is a Pig Year Branch in his chart, the Rabbit and Sheep form a Partial Three Harmony Combination with it and are able to transform Musk into a Dominant Wood Day Master. This means that in Luck Cycles or years of the Rabbit or Sheep, Musk will enjoy good fortune.
Musk had his first breakthrough in 1999 (Yin Earth Rabbit year) at the age of 28 during his Yin Metal Luck Cycle. The Luck Cycle was favorable as it controlled the Wood Rivals within his Four Pillars chart. The Rabbit year formed a Partial Three Harmony Combination with his Pig Year Branch and transformed him into a Dominant Wood chart. Musk sold Zip2, the web software company that he had started with his brother Kimbal to Compaq for more than US $300 million.
In 2000 (Yang Metal Dragon year), Musk’s company X.com, his online financial services and electronic payment company was merged with Confinity, which operated a subsidiary called Paypal. Musk favored Paypal and his efforts allowed the Paypal brand to grow. The strong metal in 2000 and 2001 (Yin Metal Snake year) were beneficial for Musk. In 2002 (Yang Water Horse year), Paypal was acquired by eBay for more than US$ 1 billion. The strong fire present in the Horse was favorable for Musk.
From the age of 32 to 36, Musk was in the Rabbit Luck Cycle. This is a positive period as the Rabbit combined with his Pig Year Branch and transformed him into a Dominant Wood chart.
Musk became CEO of Tesla Motors in 2008 (Yang Earth Rat year) at the age of 37 during his Yang Metal Luck Cycle. It marked another favorable five year period for him as the strong metal during this period controlled his Wood Rivals. Tesla Motors is involved in the production of electric cars. Electricity represents fire while cars are represented by metal. Both are Musk’s favorable elements. From a Chinese Metaphysics perspective, it is hardly surprising that Musk is still CEO of Tesla Motors today.
Musk is now in the Tiger Luck Cycle, another favorable Luck Cycle. The Tiger forms a Partial Three Harmony Fire Combination with his Horse Month Branch. The fire drains his Wood Rivals.
2014 is the Wood Horse year. This suggests that the first half of 2014 may be challenging for Musk as there is a Yang Wood Rival present. There may be some unforeseen obstacles and challenges involving his projects. However, in the second half of 2014, the Horse strengthens the Partial Three Harmony Fire Combination between his Tiger Luck Cycle and Horse Month Branch. This means that any competition that Musk may have encountered in the first half of the year will dissipate. He should enjoy a good end to 2014.
2015 is the year of the Wood Sheep. As mentioned earlier, the Sheep Luck Cycle or year forms a Partial Three Harmony Wood Combination with Musk’s Pig Year Branch to transform him into a Dominant Wood chart. It should be another good year for Musk.
AFTERWORD
It does look like he will be flying high for a while.
The brief window to short is probably this half of 2014 but short sellers already hold 35% of Tesla’s share float. http://blogs.marketwatch.com/thetell/2014/02/28/big-short-seller-bets-that-tesla-other-momentum-stocks-will-drop/
Thus, I guess it will not do to hope for too much out of it.
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Richard Fisher, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, on Wednesday said he was concerned about “eye-popping levels” of some stock market metrics, and said the central bank has to monitor the signs carefully to make sure another bubble isn’t forming.
In his speech in Mexico City, Fisher said some indicators like the price-to-projected forward earnings, price-to-sales ratios and market capitalization as a percentage of GDP, are at levels not seen since the dot-com boom of the late 1990s.
He noted that margin debt is pushing up against all-time records. “We must monitor these indicators very carefully so as to ensure that the ghost of ‘irrational exuberance’ does not haunt us again,” Fisher said.
While a few Fed officials have mentioned unease about stock prices, Fisher’s comments are the most pointed to date.
Fisher did not spare the bond market, saying that narrow spreads between corporate and Treasury debt “reflect lower risk premia on top of already abnormally low nominal yields.”
Fisher is a voting member of the Fed’s monetary policy committee this year. He has been a strong opponent of the Fed’s latest round of asset purchases.
What emotion is driving the market now? Greed! http://money.cnn.com/data/fear-and-greed/
